It's full STEM ahead in the elementary library these days. A McElroy grant, memorial donation, Scholastic Dollars and staff donations allowed us to purchase a nice variety of STEM items for our students in grades 3 - 6. Students are reading with purpose to figure out how to make circuits, sew quilts, animate with StikBots and operate mini-robots. Below you see students working with Snap Ciruits to learn how electricity works. There's rarely a day when kids aren't in enjoying the fun.
Welcome to reading! We have a good book for everyone.
Last year a reading initiative was started in the junior and senior high school, and we've carried it over again this year because we had great feedback from staff and students. All are reading between 9:46 and 10:10 a.m. four days a week with the fifth day being reserved for advisory groups. Our goal is to find books that match students' interests and expand their genre base. All are increasing vocabulary and learning perspective of others around them as they read.
